Meet the Owner: How the Tap Yard Came to Be
There’s a new beer garden in town, and the owner has a history! Zack Medford, a veteran bar owner with businesses in both Raleigh and Wilmington, is happy to announce the opening of Tap Yard. Located just outside of historic downtown Raleigh, Tap Yard is a picturesque bar, beer garden and music venue with a community feel and inclusive vibe.
Meet Zack Medford
Zack Medford is many things to the Raleigh area — a hospitality “titan” with an entrepreneurial spirit and a community leader. While Zack would blush if we went into great detail about his many accomplishments, it is worth diving into some of his key adventures in business.
The Raleigh Scene
Zack was instrumental in the revitalization of Downtown Raleigh with previously successful businesses such as
- Coglin’s Raleigh 80s & 90s Bar
- Isaac Hunter’s Tavern
- Paddy O’Beers bottle shop and tasting room
- Parliament Glenwood South’s Classic Bar
Not many people in the Raleigh area can say they haven’t frequented one of Zack’s unique bars over the past 13 years!

We don’t want to say that Zack is an expert serial entrepreneur, but it is worth a proper investigation!
Tap Yard in Raleigh
As a veteran bar owner and father of three, Zack had a vision of what Raleigh’s ideal Beer Garden Scene could be! A community-based and inclusive space where family and friends gather with a drink in hand to celebrate life — Tap Yard is that space.
Once a former Advanced Auto Parts, Tap Yard boasts an acre of land that is both peaceful and private. Tap Yard has a little something for everyone: a front bar dedicated to cocktails and bourbons, a Beer Hall with community tables, live music and event space and a vast Beer Garden that is both kid and dog-friendly. Throw in the rotating Food Trucks, yard games and a gorgeous North Carolina day…there really isn’t a reason not to come down and have a drink at the Tap Yard!
